About the Journal

About The Journal

Advancing surgical knowledge through rigorous, open scholarship. JESS is a peer-reviewed, open-access publication for original research, clinical studies, systematic reviews and case reports across surgical disciplines.

Our Mission

Publishing research that changes surgical practice

JESS exists to give surgical research a rigorous, visible and lasting home. We publish work that meets a high standard of methodological soundness and clinical relevance, with manuscripts assessed by practising surgeons, specialty editors and academic specialists.

Our aim is to shorten the distance between well-designed research and the clinicians who can put its findings to use, while maintaining a transparent and responsible publication process for authors and readers.

Publishing at a glance
  • Peer reviewed — structured double-blind review by specialty editors and invited reviewers.
  • Open access — published articles are freely available to readers worldwide.
  • DOI assigned — persistent identification supports citation and long-term access.
  • International — authorship, readership and editorial collaboration across institutions and regions.
