  The European Society of Surgery (ESS), founded nearly 30 years ago, was created to connect surgical communities and promote knowledge exchange. In 2026, ESS launched JESS, a multidisciplinary surgical journal, to continue this mission globally. Despite challenges, the society remains committed to advancing accessible medical knowledge and invites surgeons worldwide to contribute.
